Short Biography

After obtaining his master's degree in mathematics-mechanics from the Bucharest University in 1985, Marius Tucsnak worked for two years at the Research Institute for Textile Industry in Bucharest. Between 1987 and 1990, he was a junior research scientist at the Institute of Mathematics of the Romanian Academy (IMAR).

From 1990 to 1992, Marius pursued a PhD program under the supervision of Jean-Pierre Puel and defended his PhD in 1992 at the University of Orléans. That same year, he was appointed assistant professor at the University of Versailles and defended his habilitation (HDR) in 1995 at the University Pierre et Marie Curie (Paris 6).

In 1997, Marius Tucsnak became a full professor at the University Henri Poincaré (Nancy 1). From 2009 to 2015, he served as head of the Elie Cartan Institute, the mathematics research department in Nancy. Since 2015, he has been a professor and holds an excellency chair at the University of Bordeaux.

Marius Tucsnak is the head of the Analysis team in Institute of Mathematics of Bordeaux . He is the author of a research monograph and he publised more than 100 papers publised in international Scientific Journals. He is member of the editorial board of several International Journals.

Awards and Honors

SIAM 2025 W. T. & Idalia Reid Prize is awarded to Marius Tucsnak for his fundamental work on the mathematical analysis and control of fluid-structure interaction and for his deep contributions to control theory and partial differential equations. This prize will be awarded at SIAM AN25 with an associated lecture.

Research interests

Marius Tucsnak’s research interest include control of systems described by partial differential equations, as well as the analysis of systems describing fluid-structure interactions.
